Her father Walter Smith was a computer market researcher and her mother Lora was a therapist. They separated when Courtney was just seven and she lived with both parents at different stages. Jennifer is her twin sister, who works as an advertising executive. The school she attended was Menlo-Atherton High in Atherton California.
